Why We Serve
In Matthew 20:28, Jesus explains that he “did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (NIV).
Later, the apostle Paul declares that “a spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other” (1 Cor. 12:7 NLT). At Emmanuel, we follow the example of our Lord Jesus by helping others and growing into the people He created us to be.

Countless volunteer opportunities exist at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Overland Park.

In Our Community
Brookridge Elementary
EBC partners with Brookridge School to provide resources for their after-school programs.
We also help sponsor and coordinate their Good News Club and volunteer in their Lunch Buddies mentoring program. If you’d like to learn more, you can email us.
Mission Adelante
EBC works with Mission Adelante in downtown Kansas City, Kansas by providing volunteers for its ministries and by donating items for the thrift store.
Mission Adelante has a heart for the Latino and Bhutanese refugees in their community and are committed to initiatives that will transform their community. If you’d like to volunteer or donate items for the thrift store, email us.
MOPS
The MOPS group that meets at Emmanuel is open to members and those in the community.
The Emmanuel MOPS group follows the MOPS International guidelines. MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers, and by preschoolers we mean children from birth through kindergarten.
“We believe that incubating hearts and giving just-because-hugs can change the course of history. That’s why we connect moms all over the world to a community of women, in their own neighborhoods, who meet together to laugh, cry and embrace the journey of motherhood. MOPS groups are rallying women to be more honest, to feel more equipped and to find our identity by journeying alongside one another.”
The MOPS group meets at Emmanuel on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month during the school year, from 9am-11am.
Around the world
Caribbean Missions
Emmanuel is actively engaged in partnerships with Christians in areas around the world where religious freedom is limited.
God has opened doors for us to partner with house churches and other discipleship-oriented ministries that assist local believers in meeting the needs of their people—both physically and spiritually.
For example, over the years, we have provided resources to faithful pastors and courageous lay leaders that have, in turn, met needs that extend from hospital care to children’s outreach to helping teenagers and adults take their next spiritual step. It’s been amazing for our church to see God work through their faithfulness, and it has been our honor to stand with them.
Emmanuel members routinely visit these hard to reach areas to provide encouragement and support.
Missions in South Asia
Emmanuel actively supports IMB mission efforts in south Asia through prayer, encouragement of missionaries, and financial support for an evangelism training center in least reached areas.

Operation Christmas Child
Emmanuel is a National Relay Center for Operation Christmas Child and has filled thousands of boxes that have made their way around the world to children in need.
We not only sort and relay thousands of boxes for Operation Christmas Child, but we host packing parties and encourage our church family to take part in filling boxes! If you would like to learn more about Operation Christmas Child, or email us.
