Welcome!
Maybe you’ve come here because you recently moved to the area and are searching for a Southern Baptist Church in Kansas City, or maybe you’re looking for a new church home. Maybe you’re starting to think about spiritual issues and you’d like to broaden and deepen your search. Perhaps you have a child who has asked about God, and you’re thinking that maybe church could be a place to find some answers. Or maybe you’re at a crisis in your life, and you’ve decided you could use some spiritual guidance right now.
Whatever the reason may be, let us offer an observation: God uses a lot of different things in our lives to get us to where we need to be in our relationship with Him. So whether you’ve been a follower of Christ for some time or you’re just now beginning to search for God and for answers to your questions about Him, I think you’ll find that Emmanuel is a great place to land.
What can you expect on your first visit to a worship service at Emmanuel?
You’ll meet people who genuinely love one another and who will welcome you with warmth, openness, and respect. We are proud to offer worship services that focus on honoring God through music that connects with the heart and through preaching that’s thoroughly biblical, but also applicable to your daily life. It’s our prayer that you’ll leave every service with the sense of having encountered God and experienced His presence.
If you’re interested, take a minute and read through our Southern Baptist Beliefs. As a welcoming Southern Baptist Church in Kansas City, we try to base all of our doctrinal convictions on what the Bible says, not on the latest fad or the most recent polling statistics. Thus, nothing on that page will be new; we stand proudly within the great traditions of orthodox Christianity that have been held sacred for twenty-one centuries of church history.
If you visit a service at Emmanuel, please come up and introduce yourself to me at the end of the service. I’d love to meet you and hear some of your story. I’ll look forward to it!

What we Believe
We believe God has placed Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kansas City to engage the next generation in our greater metro community with transforming gospel truth.
We actively build relationships with individuals in all phases of their faith journey, from lifelong believers to those living a post-Christian lifestyle, by sharing the truth claims of the gospel in a friendly and understanding manner. As God opens hearts and changes minds, He makes former enemies of God into followers of Christ. Our doors are always open to anyone moved by the grace of God.
commonly asked questions
- 01. How do I get to Emmanuel Baptist Church?
- Emmanuel is located at the northwest corner of Meltcalf and 103rd in Overland Park.
- 02. What should I do when I get there?
- If you’re an adult, or have youth-aged children, we recommend parking at the north side of the building. Stop by our welcome desk and our volunteers can help you find a Bible study, the Worship Center, or even help you get a cup of coffee from our Corner Cafe.
- 03. What if I have kids?
- If you’re visiting with small children we recommend parking at the south side of the building and stopping at our Children’s Welcome desk. There you can meet with volunteers who will help you check your children in and show you to their classrooms.
- 04. What should I wear?
- Our congregation is diverse. You might find someone in a suit and tie sitting next to someone in jeans and a polo. The Bible is more concerned with modesty and a humble inward approach to God than dictating a particular dress code. So dress in a way that is personally comfortable and helps you prepare to meet with God.
- 05. What is the service like?
- Our service structure is fairly informal. We worship God with songs led by a band and project lyrics on a screen. We never single out newcomers in the middle of a service. Several times, a church member leads us in a corporate prayer. We take an offering. Our pastor gives a Biblical message. We usually close with a song and prayer.
